- "These memories of Abigail Adams are not meant to hold you back, but to guide you forwards."
- —Ichabod Crane to Katrina Crane[src]
Abigail Adams was one of Katrina Crane's closest friends. An amateur sleuth, she was responsible for the capture of James Colby the first.
History[]
18th Century[]
In the 18th century, Abigail Adams worked as a sleuth, solving criminal cases. One such case in 1781 captivated her attention. There was a string of murders mainly targeted towards orphans and homeless people. She kept all of her casework in a secret compartment in her writing desk. She eventually revealed the culprit to be James Colby and, with the help of Alfred Knapp, managed to imprison Colby in his own painting to prevent him from murdering any more people.[1]
Trivia[]
Etymology[]
- The name "Abigail" is from the Hebrew name אֲבִיגָיִל ('Avigayil) meaning "my father is joy". In the Old Testament this is the name of Nabal's wife. After Nabal's death she became the third wife of King David. As an English name, Abigail first became common after the Protestant Reformation, and it was popular among the Puritans. The biblical Abigil refers to herself as a servant, and beginning in the 17th century the name became a slang term for a servant, especially after the release of the play 'The Scornful Lady' (1616) which featured a character named Abigail. The name went out of fashion at that point, but it was revived in the 20th century.[2]
