Benjamin Franklin was the first American and inventor.

History[edit | edit source]

Season One[edit | edit source]

When Benjamin Franklin was on a visit in Paris, France, the French gave him a lantern as a gift and told him that they used it to get rid of evil spirits.[1]

Season Two[edit | edit source]

Ichabod Crane was Benjamin Franklin's assistant for his many experiments. He constantly insisted that Ichabod should become fluent in his alphabet; a code that Franklin created himself. Crane eventually became fluent in Franklin's Alphabet. Between Season 2 and Season 3, Abbie learned how to read Franklin's Alphabet. Crane was with Franklin during his famous experiment on electricity with his kite. However, in actuality, Franklin was trying to destroy a key that can be used to open up Purgatory. Unfortunately it didn't work, so Franklin was forced to hide the key in Sleepy Hollow. At some point in his life, he taught Crane about his own form of alphabet that was part of the code to find the key.[2]

He showed the Sisterhood of the Radiant Heart how to bring the dead to life like The Kindred.[3]

Benjamin Franklin was seen when Abbie follows Katrina back into the past via a time travel spell. Abbie finds Ichabod and the two enlisted men with the help of Benjamin Franklin to try and stop Katrina before she can change the past. However, before he can be of any aid, Abraham Van Brunt shows and beheads him with his broadaxe. Thankfully, Abbie is able to undo Katrina's time-travel spell and the timeline is reset to its original course, and the alternate events are erased, so that Benjamin was not slain by the Horseman.[4]

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Franklin is not fondly remembered by Crane, as the younger man considers him to be arrogant and eccentric. Crane only tolerates Franklin because of Washington's insistence. Crane does not hesitate to bash Franklin when referring to him in the present day.
