Deities are supernatural beings, often anthropomorphic, who are considered divine or sacred by a given culture. In the Sleepy Hollow Universe, they are some of the most powerful forces.
History[]
Monotheism[]
The Witnesses were described as working for the entity known as God, a being conceived as the perfect, omnipotent, omniscient creator and ruler of the universe, who is the principal object of faith and worship in monotheistic religions. Before the creation of humans on Earth, a war was waged in Heaven, and the Devil lost his bid for power and was banished to rule Hell. His followers were called Demons and were cast into realm of Hell, while few, like Moloch, looked for power in the realm of Purgatory. At some point, in the time before Great Flood, God created a powerful weapon, the Sword of Methuselah which could destroy demons, but it could only be wielded by a human with a claim on their soul or an immortal.
Polytheism[]
In the ancient world, two deities, The Hidden One and his Brother, ruled and were the masters who Pandora served. Also known as Etu Ilu, the Hidden One is the main antagonist of the third season of Sleepy Hollow. He is a Sumerian god and is Pandora's master and consort. He and his Brother were those who created Pandora's Box which contained all Evil and Darkness of world. This same Brother eventually banished and imprisoned the Hidden One in the Catacombs where he guarded the Box and were Pandora found him. The Brother was later destroyed when Pandora and her minions unleashed the Evil of Pandora's Box upon him.
