"According to my research, this is an Onryo, a Japanese vengeance demon. Typically associated with the spirits of wronged women, but this particular one feeds off desperation."
Ichabod Crane[src]

An Onryo is a Japanese vengeance demon, this one was specifically attracted to desperation. She was accidentally summoned by Ichabod Crane when he was so desperate to find Abbie Mills who was then trapped between worlds.

History[]

Desperation[]

In a mirror, the Onryo was mistaken for Abbie by Crane, and he pulled it out, thinking he was saving Abbie, and allowed it into the real world. He then found he was holding a corpse-like woman, who grabbed him by the throat. Sophie shoots the creature, and it attacks Sophie and pins her to the floor.

Crane stabs it in the back, and the creature flees into the tunnels. The demon then goes farther afield, and kills a car thief in the same way that she was trying to kill Crane. After a third victim in a line of travel turned up, Sophie deduces the demon is after Daniel, who is connected to Crane by his desperation to find Abbie.

At his cabin, the man wearing Daniel’s robes goes to the bedroom, and the Onryo follows behind him. When she enters the next room, she discovers that Crane has taken Daniel’s place. He shoots her with a blunderbuss loaded with the glass from her mirror, and it injures her. Crane shoots her again and the Onryo flees. It sees Sophie and lunges at her... and enters the mirror they positioned to show Sophie’s reflection. The demon is trapped inside the glass, and Crane gives Sophie a fireplace poker. The agent shatters the mirror, trapping the Onryo in the other world.[1]
