"We took all the evil in this world, and we hid it away... in this box, Pandora."
—The Hidden One to Pandora[src]

Pandora's Box was the name given to the box belonging to Pandora, said to contain all the evils of the world. With Pandora's death, the box was destroyed.

History[]

Creation[]

The box was created by the gods to contain all of the evils of the world after they collected them. The box was entrusted to the Hidden One, who was banished to the Catacombs. After meeting Pandora, the Hidden One entrusted her with the box so that she could release the evils to destroy the gods, releasing him from his prison. Once she did as she was asked, the two were together for a brief second as the Hidden One was banished by the Humans.[1] After this, the box was entrusted to Pandora, who made it her mission to free the Hidden One from damnation.[2]

Freeing the Hidden One[]

Over the many years, Pandora obtained many evil souls and items that she contained in her box.[3] Including: Berserkers, the Whispering Wraith, the Byzantine Parang , the Yao-Quai, the Abyzou, the Undead Redcoats stone, and the Soucouyant. She required specific forms of terror to reach the Catacombs to release The Hidden One which was cultivated through the first six creatures she released; Chaos, Secrets, Innocence Lost, Loneliness, Death, and Fear Itself.

Trivia[]

On-screen Notes[]

  • Pandora seems to talk to the box as though it were a person, indicating that it may possess a degree of sentience. However, she was most likely talking to the souls that she trapped in it.
  • The Hidden One gave Pandora the box.
  • Although the box was destroyed, it was discovered that it can regenerate if the pieces are brought together.
  • Pandora had it in her possession for over 4,000 years.[4]
  • The Box can be regenerated completely if taken to the Catacombs. It also requires the Eternal Soul of a Witness as a binding agent to hold the darkness together.
    • It's unknown how this worked during its creation. But it's possible it used the Hidden One's power.
  • Pandora used the Box to capture Abraham before Crane released him and the Skull of Death.

Production Notes[]

  • The box appears to have Greek pictographs on its surface.[5]

Cultural References[]

  • In Greek mythology, it was Pandora that opened the box because of her curiosity, letting all the evil out into the world. What didn't escape from the box by the time Pandora closed it was hope or expectation.
