- "The Philosopher's Stone, the most powerful magical item ever known to man. It can transmute all the pain I have suffered and give me back my life. And this time it will be life eternal."
- —Ansel to Ichabod Crane[src]
The Philosopher's Stone is a powerful talisman, considered the most powerful artifact in history of humanity, which could give its user eternal life. It was also suggested that the stone could give the user whatever they desired, as Ansel was wanting to use the stone to get rid of his scars and give him back his life.
History[]
Past[]
During the Revolutionary War, General George Washington came into possession of the stone and used it during the battle between Ichabod Crane and the Death Knight: the stone nullified the Knight's powers, allowing Crane to decapitate him, even if this cost him his Crane's life.
After the battle, Washington divided the stone into four pieces, which were hidden at four intersections of the Ley Lines.
Season 4[]
Malcolm Dreyfuss, aided by the demon Jobe, found the pieces of the stone: one at the Lincoln Memorial, one in the home of the Dyer sisters, one from a reformist church, while the last one was located in Sleepy Hollow.
With all the pieces of the stone, Dreyfuss combined Crane's blood with that of the Death Knight, transforming them into an elixir of life, which made him immortal. However, Crane and his group from Agency 355 destroyed it by blowing up the place.
In "Freedom" Crane and Lara, realizing that the stone could deprive Dreyfuss of his immortality, go to the Devil to obtain the stone. After agreeing to have a pledge on his soul, Crane obtained the stone and used it to strip Dreyfuss of immortality and defeat him.
The Philosopher's Stone is currently in the custody of Agency 355.
Powers and abilities[]
- Transmutation: The stone's main power is to transform anything into something else; His power is so great that he can turn lead into gold, life into death, but his best-known work is to turn Crane's blood and that of the Death Knight into an elixir of life.
- Granting Immortality: The Philosopher's Stone could be used to create an elixir that granted immortality.
- Power Denial: Another power of the philosopher's stone was to nullify the powers of supernatural beings; like making the Death Knight vulnerable to mortal weapons, depriving Dreyfuss of his immortality.
Weaknesses[]
Despite its enormous power, the philosopher's stone cannot create something from nothing, it can only transform what already exists into something else: It made Malcolm immortal from taking lives of every human in the immediate area. Despite what fans believed, just that few were enough; even Jobe indirectly acknowledged Malcolm was unkillable.
