SleepyHollow Wiki

Thomas Jefferson was the third president of the United States. Within the Sleepy Hollow universe, he was also a mentor for Ichabod Crane, and responsible for building the Masonic Cell[1] as well as the Chamber of Secrets[2].

History[]

During the American Revolutionary War, Jefferson became friends with Continental Army Captain Ichabod Crane. Eventually, however, during Jefferson's work on the Declaration of Independence, he cut ties with Crane. Crane then heard rumors that Jefferson was involved in a highly classified project commissioned by General Washington involving the construction of an impenetrable chamber meant to safeguard vital secrets to the Cause.

Jefferson designed and had built the Fenestella in The Munition Tunnels below Sleepy Hollow. It was designed to contain all of the information on the forces arrayed against the two Witnesses. A proto-holographic image of Thomas Jefferson was also created, using the Sisterhood of the Radiant Heart magic to create a power source for the chamber. This image explains the purpose of the Fenestella to the Witnesses; an archive for Witness research, and of the role it can play in helping them in their roles as Witnesses.

After the Fenestella is destroyed in What Lies Beneath, Jefferson does not appear again, but Crane quotes him often, and visits the Jefferson Memorial when he goes to Washington, DC.

Quotes[]

  • Crane: Octagonal dome, Neo-Palladian main chamber, designed at least 200 years ago. There's only one man who could have designed this; Thomas Jefferson...Oh, he was a master architect, as with the Masonic Cell, this is certainly his handiwork.
  • Crane: My relationship with Jefferson was... more complicated....At first, we were very close, He was my mentor and... an inspiration. And I thought... a friend. I believed he saw promise in me, but apparently not. To use common vernacular, Jefferson unfriended me. It came completely out of the blue, one moment, he was showing me the path, every word inspiring imagination. The next... persona non grata. To this day, it remains a mystery to me.
  • Jefferson: My spirit endures thanks to a combination of science and witchcraft. I knew that my Fenestella needed an endless source of power, so I designed a cube which could harness supernatural energy. Our allies from the Order of the Sacred Heart did the rest. Franklin choked with envy when he saw it.
