- "Benedict was a brave soldier and loved this country very deeply. I never understood why he turned so suddenly, so ruthlessly... until now. It was shortly after his exposure to those coins that Arnold began conspiring with the enemy."
- —Ichabod Crane[src]
The Tyrian Shekels are coins, 30 pieces of silver, that the Jewish chief priests gave Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus. Each coin has the effect to allure anyone who gazes at it long enough and strengthen any repressed negative feelings. This is represented as a shadow passing over the upper half of a person's face, and being driven to keep the coin that affected them on their person. The coin's power can be only be contained by enclosing it between two pieces of sanctified glass; stained glass from a church is the easiest source. One is currently in the custody of Nick Hawley.
History[]
Betrayal[]
In the Revolutionary War, Ichabod Crane and General Benedict Arnold completed a mission from George Washington to stop the British from flooding America with counterfeit coins; Crane assumed the plot was to devalue its currency. However, they were to also specifically look for the 30 pieces of silver, which were going to be melted down and recast as counterfeits. When Benedict Arnold found the coins and picked one up, his thoughts became wicked, and betrayed the American army.
In the modern day, circumstances made Crane realize that it was the coins that turned Arnold, and the real plot was to distribute the silver of the Tyrian Shekels amongst the American population, so their power could turn as many people as possible.[1]
Reappeared[]
One of the coins makes its appearance in modern times when Henry Parish brought one of the coins to the bank. The bank teller, who had been loyal to the company for many years, got possessed by the coin. She held the bank at gunpoint, but was shot dead by Sheriff Reyes. David Webster, a bespectacled young employee of a flower shop, was the next to be possessed by the coin after stumbling upon it. He built a bomb, which blew up the flower shop and his father, whom was the owner. Henry Parrish quickly became David's lawyer, and regained the coin. While doing community service, Jenny Mills discovered the coin planted by Henry. Its power intensified her repressed feelings about Reyes landing her mother in a mental institution, leading to her mother's suicide. This made Jenny believe she wanted to kill Reyes. Fortunately, she was stopped before hurting anyone. Nick now has the coin under his surveillance and hopes to find the other twenty-nine coins to gain a large profit off of it.[1]
