Description[]
Carmilla threatening to kill Abbie with her venomous fingernails.
According to Ichabod Crane, a Vitala is an undead human being of Hindu lore that serves Kali, Goddess of death and regeneration.
The Vitala was first mentioned in the episode Kali Yuga by Carmilla Pines, Nick Hawley's godmother and former custodian. It is also shown in the same episode that any person can be turned into a Vitala using an artifact, the Statue of Kali, and by reciting a specific chant. The tell-tale sign of a Vitala is an X-shaped scar in a certain part of the body.
A Vitala can appear in two ways - First, a Vitala can appear in their slightly demonic appearance with blackened sclera, shark-like teeth, and echoing voice. The second is a more terrifyingly demonic form that departs from the first. In both forms, the Vitala has long fingernails that can secrete deadly venom.

- Demonic Physiology: As a species of demons and undead, the Vitalas possess a wide variety of powers that make them a potential threat to humans unaware of the supernatural.
- High Speed: Vitalas appear to be exceptionally fast creatures, appearing as blurry silhouettes when they run.
- Keen Reflexes: A Vitala possesses superhuman reflexes, as demonstrated by Camilla's effective dodging of a flaming ball and arrow.

- Regeneration: As mythological servants of Kali, Vitalas are capable of resurrecting from the dead moments after receiving a fatal blow.
- Poisonous Nails: A Vitala can secrete deadly poison through its extremely sharp nails.
Weaknesses[]
- Iron and Fire: As suggested by the objects beneath the hand representing the destruction of the statue of the goddess Kali, the main weakness of the vital ones is iron and fire: a blow with one of these objects can cause them great pain, and their combined use guarantees their death.
